About Mervin
I'm an accomplished international figure skater that studied mechanical engineering at one of Canada's top universities (McGill).
With my studies, I am quite comfortable in most subjects dealing with sciences and numbers. With my athletic training I have knowledge on how to discipline, set goals, and motivate. I am very comfortable with distanced learning as I attended it myself.
Helping others achieve their maximum potential is the most rewarding feeling for everyone involved.
I'm currently still pursuing my athletic career and competing internationally while teaching on the ice
With limited ice availability, I want to apply all the teaching skills that I've acquired to a more academic situation.
As an athlete I am accustomed to learning new techniques to refine and train everyday while keeping motivated through optimism, discipline, and perseverance.
As a coach I have guided other athletes to do the same; to take ownership of their knowledge of the sport and pursue it with their own drive and passion.
As a student, I graduated highschool with a bilingual degree and honours. I was enrolled in a correspondence program (distanced education) for my Senior year to allow me to travel for my sport. I was accepted into the mechanical engineering program at one of the top universities in Canada (McGill) which is currently postponed until my athletic career allows me time to resume my academic pursuits.
I'm completely fluent in the languages of English, French, and Math (I believe in the philosophy where math is the language of numbers used to represent science and data)

Exercises and repetition.
Observe which teaching exercises elicits the best response.
Mostly athletes. Usually I've helped other athletes understand their academic subjects if they're struggling. I'm comfortable up to First-Year University subjects.
I'll use the same advice I give to athlete's looking for coaches:
Be weary of the person who tries to sell you on dreams.
"Take from me and you'll be a champion." "Join us and we'll get you further than anyone else."
You already know where you want to go. Look for the person who's offering you the tools to achieve.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Clarify what is to be expected of the roles for students and teachers.
I work on the assumption that students are responsible for effort and teachers are responsible for knowledge.
As a teacher I strive to motivate so that effort is less taxing. Any questions to help clear doubts regarding motivation is very helpful.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Mervin was an amazing tutor for me in my first year of University. He has in depth Mathematics knowledge which helped me through both first year Calculus and Statistics at McGill University. Competent also in Chemistry, Mervin tutored me through both labs and classwork in this field.
Most importantly, Mervin is very patient and understanding, while willing to work together to find his student's best method of understanding the course material.
Only positive things to say, highly recommend :)I enjoyed the patience Mervin had while helping me with Chemistry during my first semester at NYU. He was very encouraging and helped me understand basic chemistry techniques. He provided me with tools to use toward further studying that were understandable and applicable. If you are looking for someone who will provide great help and a positive environment, I reccomend Mervin!
