About Alex

I love teaching. I am currently a full-time mathematics teacher (7th-12th grade each year). I also tutor several languages (Latin, Greek, and Hebrew) and am currently a professor of Latin at University of Northwestern, St. Paul. In my free time, I also enjoy teaching several instruments (guitar, piano, and drums primarily) as well as coaching a handful of sports (especially gymnastics, of which I am currently the head Xcel coach at a local gym).

In whatever field I work, my primary passion is making learning as simple as possible by streamlining the information and moving through it one piece at a time. This comes in handy especially in math!

I also simply enjoy building relationships with my students. I primarily look for situations where I can help a family long-term and get to know them. I worked in a youth group for around a decade and I still enjoy the relational aspect of teaching even in academic pursuits.

I received a Master's Degree in Theological Studies when I was 25 (where I first fell in love with languages) and have formally taught one subject or another ever since, culimating in my current full-time job teaching math. This is my third year at that school and I love every day of it!

I would love to hear from you if you think we may be a good fit. I generally travel to my students (at their home or otherwise as desired); I live in Osceola, WI but am in the Twin Cities every weekend for gymnastics and other tutoring, so depending on where you live I should be available.

I have been teaching since I was a young teenager - at that, mainly music, but I have expanded out into mathematics and languages since then. I have a Master's Degree from Southern Baptist Theologial Seminary (having taken around 5 years of Greek and Hebrew) and I currently Latin at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and mathematics full-time at Valley Christian School in Oscola, WI.

About the lesson

I generally offer my first lesson for free. This takes the pressure off of both of us and allows time to get to know where they are at, how they like to work, etc. It also means that there is no obligation to continue if we don't feel it is a good fit - and that's okay! It's all about getting the student matched with a tutor that they will do well with.
