About Alyssa

I am a recent graduate from UMass Amherst with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. During my years in school, I excelled in all areas of science and math, and helped my peers to understand various topics within these subjects.

I am looking to help students in middle and high school with their math and science. I am patient and dedicated to seeing students succeed.

I have experience helping students with courses such as Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, Algebra 1, geometry, and Calculus 1. As a current student, taking classes to become a nurse, I have taken many of these classes recently. I have a flexible schedule, which allows me the opportunity to work with students of all ages (college students also welcome).

I believe in the many styles of learning and teaching, and it is most beneficial to use the technique that the student is most receptive to. I tend to use a lot of figures and drawings for visual comprehension. However, this is only one of the many learning styles that I am comfortable using to explain course content and material.

I started in college when I was asked to become a supplemental instructor for my Anatomy 1 professor.

I have worked along side many peers throughout college and have helped them recieve high marks for exams, as well as final grades.

About the lesson

I like to determine the students' learning habits. Sometimes its not that the student doesn't understand the material, but the way that the material is being taught. By determining the best learning style for the student, it can eliminate frustrating sessions and allow us to take advantage of the session.

I have worked with high school and college students, mostly peers.

I would always recommend that the student provides a list of topics that they are struggling with in advance. Making sure that the teacher has had time to prepare helps when answering any questions that may arise.
