About Arthur
My style of tutoring is similar to the Socratic method. I often ask my students to justify their reasoning when solving a problem because it pushes them in a subtle manner to find their mistakes and encourages critical thinking.
Because the style of my tutoring is so heavily focused on fundamentals and robust reasoning for solving questions, I feel fulfilled knowing that I'm setting up my students for future success even if I'm not there.
I come from a pedigree of tutors, actually! My mother was an extremely successful private tutor in Korea and even got a degree in teaching.
I started tutoring initially in high school in peer tutoring clubs.

I appreciate a slight heads up before working with a new student so that I can better ascertain where they are in a particular class.
That being said, it is acceptable to start working with a student as soon as possible; in this case, I ask the student to see their homework and ask them what topics they have previously covered already.
Look for a tutor that really stresses the fundamentals. Rote memorization of concepts and problem-solving techniques not only age poorly since students can't synthesize their knowledge to answer novel questions that build on top of current knowledge, but also rote memorization is something a student and their parent can do at home for free with flash cards, textbooks, etc.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try your best to do your due diligence before asking a teacher a question! Not only do school teachers prefer relevant questions that might not necessarily be explicitly answered by class material, but such students also come off as far more diligent, motivated, and focused! It's a great way to foster better relationships with teachers.
