About Roxana

I am currently a Liberal Studies major and graduate this year. Throughout my four years of education, I have learned different methods of teaching elementary math, how to teach in a classroom setting, and most recently, I got to tutor a foster child.

I have also volunteered at my church for nine years as a teacher's aid every Sunday morning. And from 2014 to 2018, I was a teacher's aid at the Iranian school that I attended.

About the lesson

I work very well with children. Every session, I take about five to ten minutes to get to know the child and for the child to get to know me. That has helped me form a relationship with the child and for the child to be comfortable around me. I also use words of encouragement if they are struggling in a certain subject. I also make sure that the child does not give up and that they try to solve the math problem on their own first before I step in to help them. I find that having them try to solve the problem first helps them with their critical thinking skills.

I have mainly worked with children from k-5th grade. Even though I have mainly worked with k-5th grade students, I am open to tutoring 6th-12th grade as well in reading, writing, and comprehension.

My advice is to make friends with as many liberal studies majors because they can help you when you need help, give recommendations, and it is like being in a community.
