About Jackson

My qualifications, at face value, are fairly rudimentary, as I have a highschool diploma from BASIS Mesa and was the class of 2020 from the school, which isn't a Bachelors in Education, however I stand out in that I have experience in tutoring as I was the TA for physics, and was part of NHS and took part in tutoring through this avenue. My professional experience is limited, however I spent a good portion of 2020 at an internship with the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.

The joys of finally understanding a difficult topic and being able to replicate accurate results always results in the feeling of a weight being lifted for me, and it's so euphoric that I greatly enjoy being able to help others in achieving this same level of understanding. While my tutoring may be less rigid and more freeform, I am fully commited to helping as much as I can with understanding the topics at hand.

I've served as my high school's TA in physics and have done tutoring after school for lower grades. I've also done more unofficial tutoring in the form of helping people during class and answering questions and discussing with people the thought process required for a certain question.

In general, it's a good idea to ask what subject specifically the student is struggling with, and if it's not a subject, example problems from previous tests and/or quizzes are a good metric for me to gauge exactly what types of questions the student struggles with. From there, I construct a brief lesson with examples, and work through examples and then instruct the student to attempt the examples on their own.

Generally, it entirely depends on budget. Higher budgets would allow for authentic tutors with degrees in education or extensive experience, meanwhile a lower budget would mean that more unofficial tutors who are more-so students and haven't quite had enough experience are a safer bet, as this would lead to more cost efficiency and allow more time and more sessions.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First ask, what kind of questions am I getting wrong the most? Is it an entire subject, or a specific kind of question? Would a tutor help at this point? If it's an entire subject, make sure to give the teacher plenty of time to construct a lesson plan and organize, and only do last minute tutors if it's a question style that is problematic for you. Try and collect example questions that you got wrong on previous tests, quizzes, and or homeworks, so the teacher has an exact idea of what types of questions you are struggling with most.

In general, I will initially request 12.50 an hour, as this is around the average minimum wage in my location, as most retail and low level food industry jobs go for around this, and then discuss with the client if this is too much, or if the client is so inclined to tip after the tutoring if they believed I was proficient and provided ample help.
