About Bill

Although I have a masters in math, believe it or not, I remember how badly I struggled with high school math. I was so lucky to find someone to help me. My grades finally improved and I even started to like math.

This experience stays with me today. I am keenly aware that every student learns differently. I am totally committed to finding a way that enables each student to do well. I work well not just with typical students, but with gifted ones and those with learning challenges.

I like seeing my students get better grades and gain confidence. I like working with any motivated student: ones who are struggling as well as students who are doing well but want to do better.

Tutoring is YOUR time. I promise I will answer ANY QUESTION patiently and clearly. I am happy to go as slow or fast as you like.

I have 22 years of experience working in public and private schools in suburban Maryland. I have math degrees from the University of Maryland (BS) and Georgetown ( MS).

In 1991, I was selected by the National Science Foundation, in conjunction with other high school and college teachers, to design curicullum that incorporates modern math including fractals and dynamical systems. I am a member of both national and state Councils of Teachers of Marhematics (NCTM) have presented at the annual conferences.

About the lesson

I have both COVID and I leave mask descions to the student's family. I encourage parents to observe initial session(s) to verify that the student is comfortable and deriving benefit from the session.

I endeavor during the first session to find out as much as I can about students and to also work to have the student gain success and confidence about the session.
