About Jamie

1. I started teaching at a university, where I worked as a math and Chinese tutor. It's a great way to help pay for school and I found myself enjoying helping students solve their homework problems.

2. I was also a teaching assistant for chemistry labs, where I helped instructors prepare for the class and answered students' in-class questions. This experience helped boost my resume by doing what I enjoy!

I have a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a minor in Math; a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering. I have gone through many years of math training. Some of the math classes I have taken include calculus, linear algebra, discrete.

About the lesson

1. First I would ask them what problem(s) they are working on?

2. In the example of if they are working on an algebra homework question: find the slope of 3x + 4y = 10

3. I would then ask them do they understand what this question is asking for? If yes, please explain to me and I will watch your process and give you help or feedback when you are stuck.

4. If they answer not at all, I will inquire more about what lessons they have been learning in class and how this question can relate to that? I will explain what is slope, unknown, equation, and basic algebraic operations to them step by step.

5. My goal is to provide methods and feedback to get students to work on questions on their own instead of giving them answers.

I have worked with students ranging from elementary school to high school.

1. If the teacher has a background in one of the STEM fields, that is a pretty good indication he/she has many years of math training.

2. Does this teacher have any tutoring experience before? Maybe have he/she give a demo lesson to see if this is a style you like.

There's a series of live concerts going on my downtown area and I really enjoy going to those!
