About Heather

I tutored all through high school. I helped out middle school students and fellow high school students on everything from their math homework to essay editing to SAT prep. I was a teacher's assistant in college where I graded papers, I answered questions in class and lab, and I held "office hours" where I was available for additional help outside of the classroom. I am confident in tutoring a variety of subjects. Reach out with any an all questions.

I love the look on people's faces when something finally makes sense. There's a light that comes on when everything finally clicks and they know the answer or how to tackle the problem. Helping to foster the development of someone's education is exciting and hope I get to help you or your children with their education goals.

I've always wanted to help people in school. I was recently going through an old scrapbook where I had a kindergarten report card. In the notes, the teacher wrote, "Mika loves to share and help others in the class with their school work."

I did Tutor training in college before being a Teacher's Assistant. I've also been a tutor before.

About the lesson

First I want to get to know their learning style a bit. So I might ask them questions about who their favourite teachers have been and why. Or what study styles have worked or not worked for them in the past. I also want to find out what particularly they need to work on. Is it just general school work or is there something specific that they need lots of help with. That information dictates what's next and how I'll review their work with them.

I've worked with a huge variety from high school students at top of their class to a student that wasn't passing his 7th-grade math class to a Ukrainian 10-year-old boy that spoke little English.

Details

$25 for the first-hour base rate, plus $10 for each additional 30 minutes. This shifts depending on if it's online, in person, if I have to travel, etc.
