About Dominic

I’ve been a math tutor for Lake Tahoe Community College for about a year and a half as well as the vice president of the colleges engineering club, secretary of the college’s science club, and a member of the math club, tutoring elementary, middle school, and highschoolers. I tutor all math at the college and love working with students to strengthen their understanding. I’m near my AA in math and science and love to help others achieve their goals. I enjoy the process and understand that it takes time and good communication skills to help others understand math.

I first started tutoring local elementary, middle school, and highschool students with the math club at Lake Tahoe Community College. After enjoying working with students I applied to the college’s library as a part time math tutor with a strong recommendation from the head of the math department. I’ve been tutoring with the college for about a year and a half with around 16 hour weeks and enjoy every bit of it. I really like math and I like helping others understand it.

I’m just about to get my AA in math and science at Lake Tahoe Community College, having completed my college’s math program with a 3.8 GPA. I’m vice president of the engineering club, secretary of the science club, and a member of the math club. The math club works with young students to tutor them in their early math classes. I’ve also been a math tutor at LTCC for about a year and a half, tutoring all the math that my college offers.

About the lesson

First, I talk with the student about the math class they are in and how they feel about math, recognizing that different institution’s math classes vary slightly and that different students require different approaches to math. Then I ask if there are upcoming exams or quizzes to focus on. Lastly, I make sure that the processes I show are consistent with the way the class or their instructor’s methods.

I’ve worked with young kids age 8 to college students of typical age, as well as older college students returning to finish classes.

Advice I would give is make sure the teacher that a student hires is experienced, patient, and good at a wide range of math.

Recently the first year calculus students have been worried a lot about their upcoming exams. They come into the tutoring center with a lot of hard calculus problems and I love working with them and clearing up the confusion that comes with analytic geometry based calculus.
