About Levi

I am a patient, passionate aspiring math teacher. I have always loved explaining mathematical concepts to people, especially to my friends and family, and often drive them crazy doing so. I earned my bachelor's degree from Mercer University in 2015 where I studied math, computer science, and music (violin). I recently passed the PRAXIS mathematics content knowledge exam to qualify me to teach secondary math in a public school. I haven't received my official score yet, but my tentative score was 187 out of 200, which is approximately in the top 5% of all test passers. I was a straight-A student in my comp-sci and mathematics courses in college and scored in the 97th percentile in my home state of Florida on the math portion of the SAT. I love to learn new things, too, so am happy to help even in areas that aren't my specialty.

I enjoy the challenge of finding the right way to explain something to a student so that they understand. I also relish seeing the joy a student experiences when they gain competence at a task that previously seemed impossible to them. Lastly, I find joy in sharing my passion for mathematics with others.

I took many different math courses in college (though my degree is in computer science and music) and excelled in all of them. Recently I've been studying to take the PRAXIS subject exam for secondary math (to qualify me for an initial teacher certification) and so am "in shape" mentally for tutoring in high school and early college level math. Besides this I have some experience teaching violin and tutoring English to Romanian children (I spent the last year in Bucharst with my Romanian wife).

About the lesson

To start, I learn a little bit about the student's background and educational history. Then I determine what the student's general and specific goals for the tutoring sessions are and develop a plan with him or her to achieve those goals. At that point the lessons may begin!
