About Ryan

I am currently a student at the University of Texas at Tyler working on my major in Biology and my minor in Biochemistry.

I have also tutored friends and colleagues in SAT/ACT mathematics and science as well as various humanities such as English and history.

I work at a consumer electronics store as well where I setup tv and audio solutions for customers.

My line of work requires that I be proficient in problem solving and critical thinking as well as dedicated to my clients.

All of them come in with a specific need and it is my job to meet that need.

Nothing gives me more enjoyment than coming up with a solution, executing it, and watching it succeed.

The best part is when I'm teaching something, regardless of the subject, and their eyes light up when it clicks.

I actually started teaching my friends. They are familiar with my background, so when they need help, I see what I can do.

I also have two younger siblings. I have helped them in math through most of their high school careers when necessary.

As a biology major, I've had to be proficient in the following math courses:

College Algebra I, College Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus I.

About the lesson

For mathematics, I generally like to see where my students are at in their course and show me the topic and a few problems they have been working on in class.

Math is one of those subjects that builds upon itself over time. If a student is not comfortable with what they are learning in their current course, it is more than likely that they weren't comfortable with a topic that came before in their mathematical career.

Once I uncover those issues, I work them out using the problems they see in class on top of problems that I've seen before. When they can grasp the concept that they previously missed, I can show them how it relates to what they're doing now, and get them back on track.

To make sure they got it, we would work on some more practice problems that are similar in nature to iron in those details.

I have worked with students ranging from middle school grades to my age (being 24).

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
In my experience, when a student is having an issue, it actually stems from issues with one or multiple concepts with the material, so it's can be very daunting to boil it down to just one question.

My advice would be to look over the problems that are being worked on in class and take note of where the student gets stuck.

That lets me know which concepts are troubling for the student and where I can possibly help by elaborating and expanding their understanding.
