About Leah

As a recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with BA in Mathematics I have taken extensive coursework in math and have demonstrated my ability to excel in the subject. Along with my coursework, I have had previous exerience tutoring students of all ages. In high school, as part of the Math National Honor Society, I helped my fellow peers with their math assignments during lunch. In college, through a club called Books and Basketballs, I helped elementary students with their reading and math homework. I also taught middle schoolers about nature and evironmental issues through Gateway to the Great Outdoors. Lastly, I was a teaching assistant for a web development course where I held office hours each week to provide one-on-one prohect help to students. I believe that a positive attitude makes all the difference. Positive encourgement will help students become excited to learn, as opposed to linking it with a negative connotation. I like to get to know the person I am tutoring to make a connection, which i believe makes the tutoring session more enjoyable.

Community service and helping others has always been important to me, which is why I like to help others in math. I am able to combine my skill set with my passion for helping others. I have always been drawn to math, but I know that is not the case for a lot of people. Math is a difficult subject to master and it takes alot of practice. I remember spending countless hours recieving help from my math teachers during lunch/in office hours in order to be successful in the class. But in the end it was all worth it to see myself succeeding and actually learning! When you work with me, you will feel the same way!

About the lesson

I like to get to know the students a little before starting. I then will ask a few question about what their goals are for session(s) and what areas they want to focus on.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about exactly what areas you are struggling with, this way I know which area to focus on! It is also important to think about which way you learn best. Is it through pictures? working through a practice problem together before answering the actual problem? or do you prefer doing the problem on your own first?
