About Gillian

If you have always wanted to learn how to weld, here is your chance. As a professional sculptor I am opening up my studio for classes. You will learn the fundamentals of working with metal and welding. Take home your own work of shiny art. Visit

I have always been an artist. As a freshman in college, I picked up a MIG welder gun for the first time and learned how to weld. Growing up, I had never even mowed our lawn so working with power tools was all new to me. Metal sparked my interest!

I am a sculptor with experience creating site-specific, large-scale public artwork. I am inspired to create artwork based on the familiar objects that one may view on a daily basis. I have over a decade of experience in creating outdoor sculptures, interior gallery and privately commissioned art works. The large scale work ranges in complexities, adding sculpture to a smokestack to freestanding work that weighs more than two tons.

About the lesson

In class I introduce the tools of the studio by welding and cutting metal. We begin by making the parts for two leaves and welding them together. Sculpting has commenced! In my work I incorporate concepts that center around pathways, growth, connectors and movement. I will work with you around a theme that captures your interests as a starting point to making your art.

Details

A private lesson is $90 for three hours. I prefer to work with students who can comitt to taking class for 4-6 weeks so that a finished piece can be created. Safety goggles, earplugs and materials will be provided.
