About Rocky

I have over 30 years of teaching piano in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida. I am passionate about the piano, and believe that each student is unique and capable of enjoying playing the piano throughout their lifetime.

I want each student to succeed by learning how to play the piano the correct way, using proper technique, as well as reading music and understanding music theory.

I hold a Doctorate in piano performance from Southern Seminary, and Master and Bachelor degrees in piano performance from Morehead State University.

I started teaching when I was in high school, out of my parent's home.

After receiving my bachelor and master degrees, I taught students through the university academy of music.

Afterwards, I taught music in Florida, Ohio, and Tennessee.

I hold a doctorate of music in piano performance.

I invite the parents for the first lesson to make sure they are comfortable with me and my studio. I give the student various listening and rhythm exercises to gauge the student's musical aptitude.

We will also focus on technique, hand position, and music reading.

I have worked with a wide variety of students, from ages 4 to 78. Students have come from rural settings to large cities, from private and public schools, to home school. Students have included beginners to master's level music students.

You would want to make sure that the teacher understands correct technique, as well as the elements of music (melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, timbre) and how those are achieved pianistically.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure the student really wants to take piano lessons.  They need to realize the amount of effort and time it takes to be successful. They may need to say no to some school activities.
