In a society where music is no longer treasured as much as it once was, I aspire to help my students appreciate the art of music and performance. Furthermore, I want to help others who are passionate in music find out how to pursue the art in their own fashion and, potentially, how to make themselves a living as a musician.

I started teaching middle school/elementary school students how to play piano, as well as other instruments, when I was fifteen.

I have started playing piano when I was nine years old, and have played ever since.

When I was sixteen, I started teaching kids how to play piano, as well as other instruments, as part of volunteer work for my high school.

I am currently working for my Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance and Music Composition.

Before the first lesson, I ask my student a few questions. First, I ask my student if he or she has had any previous instruction in piano. If the student has had any previous instruction, then I will ask the student which piano pedagogical books he or she has. If the student is seeking instruction for the first time, then I will provide them some pedagogical books with which to start. Second, I will ask the student what his or her goals are in getting piano lessons; however, I may ask this question to a parent if the child is too young to formulate his or her own answer. After asking these two questions, I will then ask my student, or the parent thereof, if he or she would like to travel to my place or if the student of parent would be more comfortable with me driving to their place.

I have worked with elementary/middle school students as well as special needs students.

Look for someone who is willing to push you but who is also understanding of your situation. Especially for piano, there are teachers who may expect too much from students who may not even have as much passion for the instrument than someone who would be able to meet the teacher's expectations. On the other hand, I also know teachers who are too lenient with students who are mature enough to develop their personal relationship with the teacher. I personally plan to incorporate a balance between compassion and expectation. However, I understand if you find a better match for yourself or for your child.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
-Would you like to do piano for fun, or do you plan to pursue it professionally?

-What kind of music do you want to learn?

-Have you played an instrument other than piano?

-What inspires you, if your parents didn't force you, to learn how to play the piano?
