About Jennifer

When Jennifer Paterson started lesson at the age of 6 she had no idea that the most interesting, inspiring and joyful people and experiences she would have in her life would be through those connections she has made through music. Jennifer feels fortunate to have degrees from The Royal Conservatory of Toronto, a Master of Music from Boston University, and the University of British Columbia. She was the recipient of the Canada Council Award to study at the Royal Opera house in London (Covent Garden) and was the principal Soprano for the New England Chamber Opera. She was heard in several operas with the Vancouver Opera Company, The Cambridge University Opera Theater and the Rhode Island Opera Company. She has thrilled audiences with her exceptional performances of classical and popular music throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and has released several recordings. Jennifer has performed in almost every genre of music. Her leading roles include Maria in West Side Story and Carrie in Carousel among many others. She originated the role of Phoebe in the world premiere of Le Devin du Village by Rousseau with the Boston Early Music group, The Friends of Doctor Burney. Her client/students have included the well-known singer now with the rock band “Queen”, Adam Lambert and Miss California and the lead in Chicago’s, “Hamilton”, Ari Afsar. Many of her students have gone on to achieve Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Music and others have performed on American Idol, The Voice and America’s Got Talent. The 17 year old Sadie Duca appeared on AGT at the age of 9 and is now enjoying a thriving recording career.

Jennifer is the founder and former CEO of the largest music school in Southern California, California Music Studios, where she and her staff developed more than 1600 students each year and provided opportunities for more than 2000 teachers. Jennifer is one of the most distinguished teachers in the San Diego area and teaches piano and voice to students of all ages and all styles. The solid technique she works with, serves her students who perform in all genres of music. She works quickly and is very goal oriented with every student, whether they are studying music for the sheer fun of it, or if it is to perform in major venues throughout the world. She makes music fun!

I love helping singers set realistic goals and reaching them. I have worked with beginning singers and with professionals in every area of music.

I started teaching after I got my degree from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto at the age of 18.

I hold an A.R.C.T from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, a Bachelor's degree from the University of British Columbia and a Masters in voice from Boston University.

About the lesson

I love to work with students of all kinds. I work with a solid technique to ensure that students build their voices without straining them. A solid technique in classical singing is something that serves the student of any style.

I have worked with students in all genres. I am classically trained and I help students in all styles of music. I focus on exercises that will keep the voice healthy and I prepare students to sing for their own enjoyment as well as for high level competitions such as "The Voice" and "America's Got Talent".

Since every student is different, I suggest you talk to the teacher and express you concerns and desires. A conversation must take place in addition to on line information.
