About Charles

My service stands out because I am a college student studying music so I fully understand the need for tutors and how many people (myself included) can have something musical that takes external help to truly understand.

I enjoy the work that I do because I truly am invested and believe in the power of music. Music is able to transform people, and is something that knows no barriers. Anyone and everyone has been affected by music in some fashion, whether the music is a classical work that they have been practicing for months, or even as simple as a song they hear on a streaming service. Music is everywhere around us and has such an impact that makes helping others in music my passion.

I got started in teaching when I became a drum major for marching band and I am currently studying to become a music teacher professionally.

Currently I study Choral Music Education at Bowling Green State University, and am in my second semester there. I am a graduate of Mentor High School.

Experience-wise I have:

- 7 Years of Show Choir Experience

- 7 Years of Concert Band Experience (3 years clarinet, 3 years bass clarinet, and 1 year trombone and percussion)

- 5 Years of Marching Band Experience (2 years Drum Major, 2 years Tenor Saxophone, 1 year Baritone)

- 5 Years of Choral Experience (Both mixed and men's ensembles)

- 4 Years of Solo Singing (3 years of high school contest and 1 year collegiate)

- 3 years of Theatre Experience

About the lesson

With a new student, I would listen to what they are struggling/need help with, and then I would base my tutoring off of the student's needs.

I have worked with all kinds of students ranging from those who have no idea what pitch or notes are, to students who have perfect pitch and are better musicians than myself.

My advice would be to practice whatever it is the student is struggling with, as music is not something that can just be "got" without putting in the time and work.

A recent event that I am fond of was going on tour with the BGSU Men's Chorus this semester. The tour created memories that will last a lifetime and helped develop my musicianship outside of a school immensely.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Student's shoild think through any questions they may have about the topic they are struggling with. A student should come to a teacher with a specific set of needs that the teacher can address rather than by asking a teacher for help without a specification on that help.
