About Ashley

Ashley Groves is unique in her ability to teach cross-platform singing. This means that she has the experience, and ability, to teach: Classical, Broadway, Pop, Jazz, Soul, R&B and so on, as the student desires. Ashley, herself, is a very easy-going and upbeat person who will work at the pace you're most comfortable with, and will take time to understand what exactly your goals in singing are so that she can best incorporate them into lesson plans.

Honestly, I love connecting with students. When you create a relationship, it's easier to work together to find ways to achieve the students goals. It's the best moment when you've been working hard on a particular technique and it just comes together.

I began teaching two years ago! I needed a job out of college and found I was qualified for this. Beyond the satisfaction of seeing students grow, I think the most rewarding part is actually getting to know them. I love people and I love music, so I really couldn't have found a better job.

I have my B.S. as a Recording Artist. This basically means I've been through all the music theory, performing and pedagogy (how to teach voice) classes you can imagine, all while retaining my great love for writing my own music and learning how to exploit it.

About the lesson

I love getting to know my students, what their hopes and inspirations in music are in our first lesson. We'll spend time going through a questionaire, and I'll tell a little about myself. Then, for the second lesson, I'll have the student prepare two songs to "blow my socks off." This is just a fun way to guage where my student's ability is and for them to show off a bit. After that we'll choose a song and get to work on learning rhythm, ear-training, sight-reading and so on and so forth!

I've worked with students of all ages! From 6 - 50's. Though I do recommend students start ages 12+ I am more than willing to start with the younger ones on music theory and making sure they're not stressing out their vocal folds (chords) singing pop music. It's crazy to see how many young kids will start creating bad singing habbits simply from immitating their favorite artist.

I would say, let me know if this is just something fun you're trying out, or if you're interested in something a little more challenging! It'll make a huge difference in how I approach lessons.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are specific things you like/don't like about your voice? I hear so often that people don't like listening to themselves and I can relate! But, I've found that it's less that I don't like my voice, but how I'm aproaching certain sounds. When I realized what specifically I didn't like, I could figure out how to fix it. Haha, maybe a little concieted, but I totally love my voice now!

Yes! Lesson's are $60/hour and payments are required monthly. I recommend students to start with a half hour unless very serious about lessons.
