About Patrick

How I Teach: I believe the needs of the student outweigh any general approach to standardized test techniques. I’ve worked with students across the educational achievement spectrum, including those with learning disabilities. Combining my knowledge of the most effective strategies with the abilities of my students, I work closely with each student to determine his or her best method of approach for every section on each test.

A typical lesson plan looks something like this:

-Before our first lesson, your student takes an assessment test and sends me the results.

-I analyze the results and create a lesson plan to address the specific needs of the student

-We meet for 60, 90, or 120 minute sessions, typically on a weekly basis. All lessons and homework will be taken from actual SATs. Occasionally, I will supplement a lesson with a question I have created myself.

-Every 3-4 weeks, the student takes another assessment test (No fewer than two, ideally at least three).

About me: I graduated NYU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre, then attended business school at Columbia University, completing my M.B.A. at the University of Minnesota.

In addition to my tutoring work, I am a professional playwright, screenwriter, and director, with work produced on stages from New York to Paris and an original pilot coming to streaming services soon. I worked as a reporter for the New York Times, and a freelance editor for pieces published in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, and more. I’ve also worked in the finance industry, as director of communications for an investment firm driven in part by quantitative strategies.

I love seeing my students start to command the material and gain the confidence they need to crush the test on test day!

I started as a tutor nearly 15 years ago, and have worked both for some of the largest tutoring companies in the country, and with private clients.

The single word that best describes my tutoring process: collaboration. I believe the needs of the student outweigh any general approach to standardized test techniques. I’ve worked with students across the educational achievement spectrum, including those with learning disabilities, and what I’ve learned above all else is the needs of the student outweigh any other strategic concerns.
