About Amy
I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Bristol, and a graduate diploma in Statistics from the Royal Society of Statisticians. I have a decade of experience teaching undergraduates; these were mostly first or second-year students at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. I can teach a wide range of subjects including statistics, probability, analysis, number theory, linear algebra, topology, and programming in R.

My main approach to teaching is through worked problems. If we are doing a course of lessons, I will set reading and a series of questions before each class. If we are revising a topic you have found difficult, I will ask you for examples of questions or concepts you are struggling with. In tutorials, we will talk through definitions and ideas from the reading or that are relevant to your revision questions. Then I guide you through the solutions to the problems on a shared whiteboard, discussing alternative approaches, and explaining steps you have found difficult.

Perfect! Very good
- Edward is a wonderful student, with strong skills in self-learning. He knows how he learns mathematics/statistics best, and is capable of rapidly learning complex ideas from existing course material. His primary need is guidance on direction of study and discussion of ideas/questions he has found difficult.See the response Amy :

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
I have known Amy for ten years, and I have repeatedly been impressed by her empathy, her ability to tailor explanations to the learner's current state of knowledge, and her immense kindness and resourcefulness. Oh, and her stunning knowledge. Anytime I a maths explanation, I go to Amy first. (I am a retired Oxford University social sciences lecturer, and a National Teaching Fellow)
Amy has an amazingly clear way of communicating complicated maths.
I have worked with Amy as part of a large research group, which combined people from a wide range of backgrounds in health and science. Amy's talks on her own work put really complicated ideas into clear and understandable language, without ever talking down to her audience. Talking one on one with Amy massively helped me in understanding how statistical methods applied to my own work.
Amy's also very kind and thoughtful as a colleague and teacher, and never made me feel silly when I didn't understand.Amy is clear and patient in explaining complicated mathematical concepts in ways which make them relevant to everyday life.
Can't recommend Amy enough. She is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and dedicated as a tutor. She can guide you through any maths topic with patience and detail. I look forward to learning more from her!
Amy is incredibly patient and able to explain complex problems. She is a very positive, friendly person who has a gift for teaching and for making learning fun. Highly recommended.
