About Gayani
Hello! I'm Gayani, a passionate and experienced mathematics and science tutor based in Calgary.
I have six years of private tutoring experience, teaching Mathematics to students in Grades 6–11 and Advanced Level Chemistry in Sri Lanka. I also have teaching experience at the University of Calgary, where I have worked as a Sessional Instructor and Co-Instructor, helping graduate students understand complex engineering and mathematical concepts.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical and Process Engineering and a Master's degree in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, while my teaching experience has helped me develop effective ways to explain challenging topics clearly and patiently.
I understand that every student has different strengths, challenges, and learning styles. My goal is to create a friendly, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace.
I believe that with the right guidance, encouragement, and practice, every student can improve their understanding and confidence. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing a student overcome a difficult concept and realize what they are capable of achieving.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorizing formulas or answers. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching methods to their individual needs, learning pace, and academic goals.
My Teaching Methodology
I use clear explanations, practical examples, step-by-step problem-solving, and interactive exercises to make mathematics and science easier to understand. I encourage students to ask questions, think independently, and develop confidence in their abilities.
A Typical Lesson
I begin by reviewing the student's current understanding and identifying areas that need improvement. Next, I explain the key concepts using simple examples, followed by guided practice and independent problem-solving. At the end of each lesson, I review progress, address any remaining difficulties, and suggest practice activities to reinforce learning.
What Sets Me Apart
I have six years of private tutoring experience teaching mathematics and Advanced Level Chemistry, along with university teaching experience at the University of Calgary. My engineering background allows me to connect mathematical and scientific concepts to real-world applications. I also have experience developing interactive educational simulations that help students visualize and understand complex topics.
