About Carl
I'm a PhD-qualified university lecturer and researcher with experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in Business and Management. My academic background is particularly focused on work, employment, organisations and industrial relations, and I have a strong interest in helping students develop the confidence and critical thinking skills they need to succeed at university. I have experience of supervising dissertation students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level at a QS UK Top 10 University.
Alongside teaching, I have an ESRC-funded postdoctoral research background and experience of conducting and publishing academic research, including qualitative research involving interviews and thematic analysis. I therefore have particular experience in helping students with dissertations, research projects and academic writing.
I enjoy teaching because I find it rewarding to see students develop their understanding and become more confident in their own abilities. I know that university work can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when you're faced with a dissertation or an assignment that you don't know how to approach. My aim is to make that process more manageable by providing clear, practical and supportive guidance tailored to each student's needs.

My approach is practical, supportive and tailored to the individual student. Rather than simply telling you what to change, I aim to help you understand how to approach academic work more effectively and develop the skills you can use independently.
I can provide one-to-one support with dissertations and research projects, essays and assignments, critical thinking and academic argument, assessment preparation, literature reviews, research methods and academic writing.
For dissertation students, I can help at every stage of the process — from developing and refining a research question, structuring a literature review and choosing an appropriate methodology, through to analysing findings, developing an argument and preparing the final dissertation. I have particular expertise in qualitative research, interviews and thematic analysis.
For essays and other assessments, I can help you understand what an assignment is asking you to do, develop a clear argument, structure your work effectively, engage critically with academic literature and prepare for assessments.
My aim is not to do the work for you, but to give you the guidance, feedback and confidence to produce your own best work.
