About Colin
I am a dedicated and passionate Music educator with over a decade of experience teaching in the independent sector. Holding a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), I am currently a full-time teacher in a leading private international school, where I specialise in navigating students through the complexities of the GCSE, A-Level, and International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula.
Throughout my 10+ years in the classroom, I have developed a deep understanding of what it takes to excel in academic music. My professional background allows me to offer more than just tutoring; I provide an "insider's perspective" on exam board expectations, portfolio moderation, and the rigorous standards of the independent sector.
My teaching philosophy is built on clarity, encouragement, and high expectations. I specialise in taking complex theoretical concepts and making them accessible and engaging.
My Qualifications & Experience:
Professional Educator: 10+ years of full-time classroom experience in high-achieving independent schools.
Curriculum Expert: Extensive experience with AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and a particular expertise in the IB Diploma Programme.
Academic Background: PGCE-qualified with a focus on secondary music education.
Versatile Musician: While my focus here is academic, my background as a multi-instrumentalist and producer informs my holistic approach to music analysis and composition.
