About Racquel

Hello! My name is Racquel, and I have a degree in Mathematics and Educational Studies, as well as a minor in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. I started tutoring at Mathnasium in 2016 and have since continued to tutor throughout high school, college, and while working as a high school math teacher. I have over 8 years of experience tutoring in most subjects, but I specialize in all levels of math, including AP Calculus BC, and test prep (ACT/SAT). As a native Spanish speaker, I also have experience teaching Spanish. Additionally, I have a strong background in working with students with learning disabilities. Throughout these experiences, I've learned to adapt my teaching style to each individual student. I truly love working with students and believe that each learner is unique. With this approach, I have achieved tangible results with my students, including improved grades and successful AP exam scores. Additionally, through a summer math program I designed and led, I improved 100% of students' math abilities and lowered 100% of their math anxiety scores, as measured through pre- and post-test and questionnaires. My goal is to understand each student's individual learning style to provide the best possible support and help them build confidence.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to be completely tailored to your needs. Each session will focus on your specific learning goals whether that is:

- reviewing homework and preparing for an upcoming test or quiz
- building foundational skills and filling gaps of knowledge
- working through practice problems to solidify new concepts
- developing personalized strategies for test-taking

I use a positive and encouraging approach to help you feel confident in your abilities. You can expect a collaborative, warm environment where we work together to solve problems, and I adapt my teaching style to match your needs. I like to put the thinking on students by asking questions to help build your confidence and understanding. My goal is to empower you to succeed independently, but I'll always be there to support you with direct instruction when it's needed.
