About Shelley
I have a strong interest in fashion, textiles and creative design, alongside an established career in education as a qualified teacher since 2012. I also hold a Cambridge degree in Modern Languages, a PGCE, and a UAL Level 3 Diploma in Fashion Design (Distinction), which has developed my understanding of both creative practice and structured learning.
I enjoy supporting students in developing their own ideas, building confidence in their creative decision-making, and learning how to refine and present their work effectively. I also have experience supporting academic elements of creative study, including coursework, reflective journals and project development.
I have also supported a BA-level dissertation on fashion and society written in French, which reflects my interest in the academic and contextual study of fashion alongside practical design work.
My aim is to provide structured, supportive guidance that helps students develop both technical skills and independent creative thinking, enabling them to progress with confidence and clarity.

I begin by understanding each student’s current level, interests and areas they would like to develop, then design sessions that support both technical skill-building and creative exploration.
Lessons are practical and hands-on where appropriate, and may include sewing or knitting techniques, alongside broader creative development such as mood board creation, primary and secondary research, colour theory, fashion illustration and textile experimentation. These elements are introduced in a structured way depending on the student’s goals, whether that is skill-building, portfolio development or academic coursework.
For students working at a more advanced level, I also provide support with design development, reflective journals, project refinement and contextual research, helping them develop a deeper understanding of their work and how to communicate ideas effectively.
I encourage students to develop their own creative direction while providing clear structure, guidance and feedback throughout the process. This helps build confidence in decision-making and supports steady progression over time.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual, combining practical skills, creative exploration and critical thinking to ensure meaningful and sustained development.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Shelley worked in my department, in a highly competitive organisation. She is really sharp and her attention to details is excellent. Above all, she is kind and always positive in the way she teaches. Very proficient in all the latest software, as well as original in her creativity, I highly recommend her. She'll deliver brilliant classes, whatever the level, leading to above average results in public exams and tests.
As a family we have worked with Shelley for a number of years now. My son is in year 10 and she also tutored his older sisters when they were taking their GCSEs. My children enjoy her lessons and really trust her as she knows the exam boards really well. I will use her services again when my youngest is ready to take GCSEs.
Shelley really knows her subjects and she explains things in a way that is easy to understand. She is patient, encouraging and very good at helping you work through difficulties. I always felt supported whilst also being challenged to improve.
