About Colleen
Professionally, I'm a historian-archivist, but in my free time I love all manner of arts and crafts, from theater and dance to calligraphy and cosplay. When I was growing up, I wanted to learn to sew and knit so badly, but I didn't have anyone to teach me. With library books and a lot of determination over many years, I managed to teach myself, but it was a much harder process than it could have been. I love helping others find that same enjoyment--and hopefully have lots of fun and minimal frustration in the process!

Learning a new skill can be intimidating. You deserve friendly support and instruction that moves at your pace. I'm here to get you started on projects that interest YOU and introduce you to knitting/crochet/sewing fundamentals in the process. I specialize in working with folks who are brand new, including kids.
My goal is to give students the skills, knowledge, and confidence to dive into their first projects--ideally after only a couple of lessons. Students can then choose to check in further if they'd like additional assistance, feedback, or to move on to more advanced techniques.
In your introductory lesson we'll discuss your project goals, equipment, supplies, and the basics of reading patterns. This will prepare you to jump start your project in the following lesson.
Next lessons will cover techniques that you can apply directly to your new project:
- prep work and getting started
- core stitches and techniques
- following patterns
- tension and the use of measurements
- tips and tricks
- finishing off
I can be available in-person and by video call.
