About Amanda
I have 5+ years of teaching General Chemistry and now one whole year of teaching all levels of Middle School Math (Math 6, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I), and although I am a relatively new teacher, I have fresh perspective and can still relate to how the student sees their struggles with particular exercises. Yes, I always like providing context in which math lessons can be used in real life and their significance and connection other, previous lessons, since Math builds. but I also understand how crucial time is (especially because I'm used to teaching within 40-minute time constraints per class period) and my preferred plan of attack is to dive right into the problems.

As someone who was only recently a student myself, I understand the importance of breaking down steps in Algebra I & General Chemistry into something manageable, organized, and easy to follow. I also stress the importance of showing work at each step in order to precisely pinpoint where errors are made throughout the course of solving an exercise. I'm a big proponent of teaching via examples and having my students mirror those examples on the exercises I give them to first learn the material. Usually, when I first present an example, I write a list of detailed steps--the general recipe or procedure one would need to successfully arrive at the complete, correct solution for each of those exercises that can be based off of and iterated from that said example. I'm a chemist who teaches middle school math, so my approach is 100% my own unique, unconventional way--which gets direct results!
