About Spencer
Hi, I'm a Division 1 track athlete at Grand Canyon University, currently pursuing a Master's in Business Analytics after completing my bachelor's degree in Finance. I also work as a financial analyst intern, where I use math and data every day to solve real business problems — experience I bring directly into my tutoring sessions.
I tutor algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus for high school and college students. My approach focuses on helping students visualize the concepts they're learning and understand how those concepts apply to their future, whether that's a career, a college major, or everyday life. I believe math becomes far easier to learn once it stops feeling abstract and starts feeling relevant.
Balancing Division 1 athletics with graduate school and analyst work has taught me discipline, patience, and how to communicate complex ideas clearly and efficiently — skills I bring to every lesson. I know firsthand what it means to manage a demanding schedule, and I structure my tutoring sessions to be focused, effective, and respectful of my students' time.
Whether you're catching up on a challenging topic or working ahead, I'm committed to helping you build real understanding and confidence in mathematics — not just get through the next test.

My Teaching Approach
As a working financial analyst and MS Business Analytics student with a finance degree, my approach centers on helping students visualize the math they're learning and see exactly how it connects to their future, whether that's a career, a college major, or just everyday decision-making. Math tends to click once a student can picture the process instead of just memorizing steps, and once they understand why it matters beyond the classroom.
Method & Techniques
I start every new student with a quick diagnostic conversation to find out where the gaps are, not just what topic they're struggling with, but why it's not clicking. From there, I break problems down visually, using diagrams, graphs, and real-world examples to make abstract concepts concrete. I also tie lessons back to practical applications, how algebra shows up in budgeting, how calculus shows up in growth and rates of change, how statistics shows up in the data decisions companies make every day, so students see the point of what they're learning, not just the process.
A Typical Lesson
5 minutes: quick review of previous material or homework questions
20-25 minutes: new concept walkthrough, using visuals and real-world examples to build intuition
20-25 minutes: guided practice problems, with me stepping back as the student gains confidence
5-10 minutes: recap, and a short set of practice problems for next time
What Sets Me Apart
As a Division 1 track athlete at Grand Canyon University, I understand discipline, time management, and how to break down a big goal into small, consistent steps, the same approach I bring to tutoring. I know what it's like to be a busy student juggling a demanding schedule, and I build lessons that respect my students' time while still making real progress.
Who These Lessons Are For
I teach algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus to high school and college students. I especially enjoy working with students preparing for college-level math or majoring in business, finance, or analytics, since I'm currently in that world myself and can speak to how the material applies beyond the classroom.
