About Rhys
I am a dedicated Fine Art educator and practising artist currently completing a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training, specialising in creative arts teaching. I have experience supporting GCSE, A-Level and degree-level learners in developing drawing, painting and digital art skills, as well as building strong coursework and portfolios for further study. My teaching approach is grounded in professional art practice and proven pedagogical methods, ensuring sessions are both inspiring and structured. I am passionate about helping learners grow in confidence, develop their creative identity, and achieve their goals—whether they are preparing for assessments, building a portfolio, or exploring art for personal enrichment. With a warm, patient and supportive style, I work hard to create an encouraging environment where every student feels valued, motivated and capable of success in their artistic journey.

My lessons are tailored to each learner’s creative goals and skill level, drawing on my PCET training and experience teaching GCSE, A-Level, and degree-level students in art and media. I take a supportive, structured and reflective approach, helping learners build confidence, technique, and creative independence through guided practice, demonstration, discussion and constructive feedback. Lessons typically combine core skill development (such as drawing fundamentals, colour theory, composition, brushwork, or digital illustration techniques) with opportunities for personal artistic exploration and portfolio preparation. I use forward-planning, clear learning outcomes and scaffolded activities informed by adult-learning principles to ensure sessions are accessible, motivating and engaging. A typical lesson lasts 60–90 minutes, allowing time to warm up, develop practical work and reflect on progress. I have experience teaching learners of all ages, from secondary school students preparing for exams to adult beginners, returning learners and university applicants building portfolios. Whether you want to strengthen foundational drawing skills, improve painting techniques, explore digital tools, prepare for interviews, or simply reconnect with your creativity, I will work with you step by step to help you grow as an artist.
