About Alexandria
I am a 4th year college student with an Associate’s degree working toward my Bachelor of Music degree with Teacher Certification. I plan to find employment as a band director after completing my college education. I’ve been playing the flute for 10 years. My biggest musical achievements so far include being selected as a winner of my university’s solo competition, performing on the radio, making the Texas All-State Band and earning the Texas State UIL Solo and Ensemble Outstanding Performer distinction. In addition to band, I was a member of my city’s youth orchestra for 5 years and was principal chair the last 2. I also play the piccolo and have experience playing it in both a band and orchestral setting. I am on a full-ride chamber music scholarship at my university. I give many private lessons and have leadership experience with my high school band program as a section leader and drum major during marching season.

Lessons with me are flexible and engaging. Anything a student needs help with we will work on in our lessons. However, if a student doesn't necessarily know what to work on but just knows they want to better their flute-playing, I'll always have something for them to play and feedback to give! In a typical lesson, I'll have my students work on tone development, scales, and an etude/solo piece. We'll address other important concepts throughout the lesson, depending on what the student/music requires. This includes, but is not limited to, intonation, phrasing, music reading, and flute techniques. For beginner musicians, I will spend a lot of time in our first few lessons teaching my students how to read music, as it is important to know basic music terminology and have basic music reading skills before learning a new instrument.
Every student progresses at their own rate, so lessons will be individualized. However, there will be a long-term plan that will ensure the student learns everything they should while also having the flexibility to take more time to better understand something if they need. There are multiple correct ways to execute concepts on the flute, so I’m all about taking time to find out what works best for each student.
I always let my students know that they are always welcome to contact me between lessons if they have any music-related questions.
I hope you consider being a part of my flute studio! I'd be happy to have you! :)

Alex and I have known each other since my freshman year in high school and her junior year! Over time, we got to know each other better through band and other organizations like FFA and FCCLA. Over the years Alex has helped me with numerous auditions such as, band tryouts or marching technique. I have seen her grow as a leader from being my section leader as well as drum major! I know she is somebody I can count on to be patient, explain things well, and communicate effectively! I recommend Alex because she will help you be the best musician you can be.
