About Samuel
I'm a former Teaching Assistant at Colby College and a current Teaching Assistant and Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. My academic background includes a strong record in mathematics, including a 1520 on the SAT, and hands-on experience helping students at every level build clarity and confidence in the subject.
Teaching has always been a core part of how I work, both in and out of the classroom. As a TA, I've supported students through challenging coursework, office hours, and one-on-one problem solving, and I bring that same patient, structured approach to tutoring. I care about making sure concepts genuinely make sense, not just that a homework set gets finished.
You can count on me to show up prepared, communicate clearly, and adapt my explanations to how you learn best. Whether you're catching up, staying ahead, or just want more confidence in math, I'm here to make the process straightforward and worthwhile.

My approach is methodical: I make sure you understand the "why" behind each concept before moving to practice, rather than just memorizing steps. A typical lesson starts with reviewing any tricky homework or exam problems, then breaks down new material into small, concrete examples before working through practice problems together.
What sets me apart is my background bridging teaching and research, along with strong personal results in math. I scored a 1520 on the SAT, and as a former TA at Colby College and current TA and Ph.D. student in Computer Science, I've worked with students at very different levels, from those just building confidence in Arithmetic to those tackling proofs in Calculus. I explain things in multiple ways until one clicks, and I always check that you can solve a similar problem on your own before we move on.
My lessons are for students at any level, from middle school through college, who want to strengthen their foundations in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, or Calculus, whether that's for a class, an exam, or general confidence in math.
