About Cara
I have been teaching English for 6 years in various schools, and am aiming to focus on more personalised and individualised tutoring. Throughout the years, I have become an expert in a variety of novels, poems, plays, teaching creative writing skills and comprehension. Whatever it is you are struggling with, I aim to inspire confidence throughout our sessions. Many students struggle with certain skills in English, and often in the classroom it can be very fast-paced and pressurised. I would aim to ensure we work at your pace and provide you with personalised and targeted sessions tailored to your needs.

I am a former qualified (QTS) Secondary School English teacher of students from ages 11-18. I have six years of expert teaching under my belt and can tutor students between 11-18 in various skills: reading comprehension, creative writing, analytical skills, essay writing, and transactional writing. I am experienced in teaching English Literature and English Language GCSE courses - specialising in Eduqas and AQA specifically but am adaptable to all exam boards. I am experienced also in teaching A-level English Literature with exam boards OCR and AQA. As an experienced teacher, I follow a personalised, nuanced approach depending on the student's needs, strengths, and weaknesses. I aim to encourage confidence and self-belief in my students to enable independence and resilience in areas they find most challenging. I also have experience with students with Special Educational Needs, different cultures, ethnicities, sexualities, and levels of spoken English - all are welcomed. About the sessions: I am flexible with lesson length, but 1-2 hours would be the normal tutoring length. They are priced at £30 per hour. I aim initially to gain an understanding of the student’s strengths and weaknesses in the topics studied in English. Then, I would look at the student’s class work and the class teacher's approach to enable clarity and consistency in my teaching. From this, I would tailor the sessions towards their area of weakness but also push their strengths. English is a skill-based subject, therefore I would aim to ensure there is written practice in every session with direct feedback leading to the student improving errors. Work may include using resources from their class work, from exam board websites, or created by myself.
