About Isabella
I bring a strong foundation in education and student-centered teaching to my work as a tutor. I studied Public Policy and minored in Education at the University of Chicago, before teaching Special Education Math, English, and Science at a Middle School in the Bronx while earning my Master's in Teaching.
My passion has always been expanding access to excellent education. As a teacher, I focused on the whole student, leading with respect, and used data from multiple sources to better understand students' learning needs.
I work as a tutor to create an engaging environment where students can access their own curiosity and are comfortable asking questions. I take pride in finding innovative approaches to help students master concepts. I lead sessions with a mix of structure and flexibility. To me, tutoring is not just about helping students complete assignments or earn higher grades, but building genuine understanding and helping them feel more equipped to thrive academically.
Now, I am proud to work at a non-profit helping provide professional development to first-generation college students through a career development curriculum and mentorship. I'm excited to connect to students one-on-one again to support their learning in a more personalized, impactful way

My approach as a tutor is rooted in building relationships and boosting student confidence, which are essential for meaningful learning. With experience teaching middle school math, science, English, and special education, I specialize in supporting upper elementary through early high school students. I incorporate visuals, real-world examples, and students’ personal interests to make learning engaging and accessible for every learner.
As a special education teacher, I focused on identifying gaps between what a student already knows and grade-level expectations, then designing targeted strategies to bridge that gap.
A typical lesson includes a brief check-in, a warm-up activity, direct instruction or guided practice with new material, and checks for understanding. I end sessions with a student-led reflection, where learners summarize what they’ve mastered.
What sets me apart is my ability to meet students where they're at— I can review class content, support homework, design customized lessons, or adjust instruction in real time based on student needs.
I love helping students learn new content, but also want to see my students develop confidence and ownership, and become more effective learners.
