About Will

My name is Will, and I am a professional freelance flutist and instructor in Los Angeles. I hold my Master of Music in Flute Performance from UCLA and my Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Oberlin Conservatory. I have over 10 years of experience working with students ages 7+. I have taught Secondary Lessons and coached chamber music at Oberlin, led flute sectionals with the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras, and currently teach flute with the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) program. I teach both online and in-person. Students can come to my home studio, or I am willing to travel within the Culver City/Ladera Heights/Baldwin Hills/Inglewood area. Sliding scale lessons available-- please ask!

About the lesson

While every student learns differently and faces different systemic obstacles, one thing that benefits all students is a space where mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, vulnerability is welcomed, and authenticity is honored.

It is my role as a teacher to facilitate an environment in which students feel empowered, safe to experiment, appropriately challenged, and inspired. Sliding scale lessons available-- please ask!

Each lesson is customized for each student, and will follow the same general structure:
-warm up
-tone and technique exercises (for smooth, even fingers and a warm, rich sound)
-performance of selected repertoire
-troubleshooting, practice, and support
-what and how to practice for the next week

All ages and abilities are welcome!
