About Hugo

Meet Your French Tutor – Bringing France to Your Classroom I’m Hugo, a French native who lives and breathes his language. Raised on Verlaine's poetry, Molière’s wit and the cadence of everyday Parisian cafés, I’m driven by one goal: to make you fall in love with French as deeply as I have. Why My Lessons Spark Enthusiasm - France Beyond the Textbook Each class is a voyage—from the silky vowels of southern chansons to the sharp argot of Paris streets. We dissect newspaper editorials, debate current affairs on France 24, and savour excerpts from Camus, Zola and contemporary voices like Leïla Slimani. Language comes alive when it carries culture. - Attention to Nuance French thrives on nuance: the glide between “u” and “ou,” the power of the subjunctive, the untranslatable charm of “dépaysement.” I zoom in on these subtleties so you sound authentic, not classroom-trained. Expect targeted pronunciation drills and mini-lessons on idioms that textbooks overlook. - Interactive, Story-Driven Method We build each lesson around a narrative—sometimes a short story, sometimes a piece of breaking news. You’ll predict endings, role-play characters and rewrite headlines, engaging every skill (listening, speaking, reading, writing) in one cohesive arc. What a Typical Lesson Looks Like 1. 5 min warm-up – quick chat about a French song or yesterday’s Ligue 1 scores to switch your brain into French mode. 2. 40 min core exploration – analyse a text or video, mine it for vocabulary and grammar, then debate or create with it. 3. 10 min skills clinic – laser focus on a tricky sound, tense or expression that emerged. 4. 5 min wrap-up – personalised action points and a cultural “gem” (podcast episode, museum VR tour, comic strip) to enjoy before next time. Who Thrives in My Classes - Teens aiming for top marks in GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level or IB French. - University students seeking sophisticated essay style and confident oral defence. - Professionals needing persuasive, culturally attuned French for diplomacy or business. - Curious adults who’ve long dreamed of reading “Le Petit Prince” in its original glow. If you crave a tutor who pairs precise language coaching with the soul of French literature, cinema and everyday life, I’d love to be your guide. Let’s open the door to France—one vivid, memorable lesson at a time.

About the lesson

My Tutoring Approach — Learn French the Smart, Confident Way Teaching Methodology - Communicative Immersion: We switch to French from the first minute. Through role-plays, debates and real-world texts (news clips, podcasts, short stories), you’ll practise speaking and listening exactly as they happen outside the classroom. - Diagnostic & Personalised Road-map: An initial skills check pinpoints strengths and gaps. Each lesson then targets clear, achievable objectives, integrating vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and culture so you develop automatic, natural fluency. - Active Skill-Cycling: Expect quick quizzes, pronunciation drills and mini-projects that recycle new language multiple times—turning short-term memory into long-term mastery. - Actionable Feedback: Every session ends with a recap sheet plus tailored exercises, so you know precisely what to practise and how. Lesson Structure - Standard lessons are 60 minutes—long enough for deep practice, short enough to stay energised. - 90-minute intensives available for exam prep (GCSE/IGCSE, A-Level, IB, DELF/DALF) or professional objectives. - Online (Zoom/Teams) or in-person in central London; flexible scheduling to fit school, university or work timetables. Qualifications & Experience - Native French speaker with fluent English. - Graduate of Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas and current master’s student at the London School of Economics. - Experienced writer and presenter (weekly economics newsletter, conference talks), proving an ability to explain complex ideas in clear, engaging language. Who the Lessons Suit - Secondary students aiming for stronger GCSE/IGCSE or A-Level results. - IB and university students needing advanced grammar, essay skills or oral exam coaching. - Professionals preparing for business trips, relocations or francophone clients. - Adult beginners and returners who want a supportive space to start. Whatever your current level, my blend of academic rigour, dynamic practice and customised feedback equips you to speak French with accuracy, ease and confidence.

Hugo has been tutoring me over the last year, and has hugely improved my grades. He has explained concepts to me in different ways to aid my understanding, and made the effort to ensure that I was given plenty of materials to use in my own time too. He is extremely patient, reassuring (which I definitely needed!) and knowledgeable. Without his help, my grades and my academic confidence would’ve been a disaster!
