About Lauren
I have just finished three years studying chemistry at The University of Sheffield and have obtained a first class honours degree classification.
During my time at the University of Sheffield, I have spent many hours in the laboratory and have a good knowledge of many practical techniques used in chemistry today. I have always found effective ways to help myself understand concepts, which at first seemed daunting. For this reason, I believe that I will be able to relate to and help with any problems that students are having.
In my final year at university, in addition to exams, I completed a 'literature review' which was a detailed written exploration of a specialist topic which required extensive research. My review received a first (78%).
Whilst I am new to tuition, I have previous experience of teaching in Sri-Lanka where I taught both English and mathematics to children up to the ages of 13. I also have work experience at local primary schools where I supported individuals and small groups of children.

As a friendly and approachable recent graduate in chemistry, I aim to make my lessons clear, concise and engaging. Lessons are suitable for all abilities and will take place via Skype or Zoom.
Having just been through education, I am aware that people learn best in different ways and I will tailor my lessons to the individual's needs. For example, if a student tells me that they are more of a visual-learner, I will try to create more visual aids for the lesson such as diagrams, charts etc. My lessons will include, practise of past-exam questions, end-of-session summaries and a variety of activities to assess how well concepts have been understood.
I require that the student sends me/informs me of the 'topic area' which they would like to focus on or specific problems they are struggling with at least 3 days before the scheduled session. This will allow me time to prepare the most effective lesson. If the student would prefer general help with the subject, I can happily work through key areas of the syllabus. I will use the first lesson to identify areas to focus on. I have the current GCSE and A level AQA text books which can be used to cover the OCR exam syllabus.

Details
I will be offering lessons at a rate of £17/hour which reflects my preparation and planning time prior to the lesson as well as the lesson itself.
I will be offering the first lesson free of charge as an opportunity to get to know the student and vice versa.
Students may also book a 'block' of lessons for a discounted price of £80 (block of 5 lessons) or £155 (block of 10 lessons).
