About Martha
I’m a practising artist who graduated in 2023 with an MA in Fine Art from City & Guilds Art School. Alongside my practice, I run a podcast exploring the connection between art and wellbeing.
I lead online painting clubs focused on contemporary artists, teach within the adult education sector, and offer both group classes and 1:1 tuition for adults and children. My teaching is centred on building confidence, curiosity, and individual creative voice, whether you’re a complete beginner or developing a more advanced practice.
I have over six years of teaching experience across a range of settings. I began by running creative workshops for adults experiencing mental health challenges, which shaped my belief in art as a powerful tool for wellbeing. I then trained as a secondary school teacher, gaining three years of experience teaching GCSE and A-Level art. During this time, I supported students in achieving excellent results, including a GCSE cohort that achieved the highest grades in the school.
My background began in technical sculpture for film and theatre during my undergraduate degree, before I discovered my passion for fine art. This combination of technical skill and conceptual thinking continues to inform both my own work and my teaching approach.
Alongside my ongoing practice, I continue to teach adult classes and tutor younger students, which I find incredibly rewarding.

My teaching is tailored to your individual interests, goals, and experience level. During our first session, we’ll discuss what you’d like to develop and create a personalised learning plan that supports your creative growth.
I teach a wide range of art disciplines, from observational drawing and painting to abstraction, mixed media, and sculpture using air-dry clay. Whether your goal is to build strong technical foundations, develop your own artistic style, or simply reconnect with creativity, lessons are designed to meet you where you are.
When teaching drawing, I encourage students to simplify what they see into basic shapes and forms. This helps train your eye to draw what is actually in front of you, rather than what your brain assumes should be there. Developing these foundational observational skills gives you the freedom to work confidently across any style- whether realism, abstraction, or something in between.
Alongside technical skill-building, we work on developing imagination, experimentation, and confidence in your own creative decisions. We’ll explore both historical and contemporary artists to deepen your understanding of visual language and provide inspiration for your own practice.
A big part of my teaching is creating a supportive environment where mistakes are welcomed as an essential part of learning. Building trust and helping students feel at ease is central to my approach, as confidence and resilience are key to artistic development.
Lessons take place in my fully equipped studio, with all materials provided. I can also host small group sessions for up to four people, with discounted rates available for group bookings.

Perfect! Martha has been giving my 10 year old son Art lessons for the some months now, in preparation for a potential 11+ Scholarship. Home tuition. My son loves her. She has a natural way about her and she has blended in very well with our family. She figured my son out very quickly and she knows how to draw out the best in him even in the thick of one of his frustration meltdowns. Art is seldom ever easy!
Martha is patient and encouragingly firm when needed. She is very knowledgeable in Art and she has been able to teach my son a range medium. She has been brilliant at taking directive on what is needed whilst bringing her own guidance and experience to the table.
Martha will often go the extra mile. For example, she gave my son some paint brushes from her own collection; she sometimes brings in her own paints for him to try. My son always looks forward to her lessons… he sees them as a well earned treat :-)View more reviews

Martha is kind, reliable, and clearly passionate about helping young artists grow.
My 10-year-old son has been working with her for some time now and the impact has been genuinely wonderful to see. He can sometimes struggle with confidence, particularly when trying new things. From the very beginning, Martha created a calm, encouraging space where he felt safe to have a go without fear of getting things “wrong”. Over the time my son has been under her guidance, I have seen a remarkable growth not only in his artistic skills but also in his confidence and enthusiasm for creative expression. Recently, he completed his first portrait using oil paint. He has been incredibly proud of this project. Martha’s encouragement has helped him believe in his own abilities and take pride in his work in a way we had not seen before.
As parents, we have also had the pleasure of getting to know Martha personally. We have built a warm relationship with her and have come to truly appreciate her talent and dedication. In fact, we have even purchased some of her artwork, which we love and admire.
Martha demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and a warm, approachable manner that both children and parents appreciate. She continues to make a lasting positive impact on my son’s development, not just artistically but personally as well, and we are very grateful for that.
I would not hesitate to recommend Martha to any parent or institution seeking a genuine, dedicated and talented art teacher.
Martha is an absolutely excellent teacher. She explains everything in such an encouraging way and makes art feel accessible no matter what your level of skill in painting is! Her passion for painting really shines through and she always makes the lesson fun whilst improving your painting skills along the way. Thanks so much Martha :)
Martha is a talented artist and has hosted several art workshops for me, which have been very well received. Her approach is warm and encouraging and she has many creative suggestions and ideas. I enjoy working with Martha and hope to do so more in the future.
Martha and I worked together for 6 months. I am an experienced teacher and would highly recommend her. She is a gifted artist and loves to share her passion with her students. She has inspired students who face enormous challenges in life to move forward with confidence and find their identity within art. Book with confidence.
