As a tutor, I want to help you to help yourself. Besides just answering questions about subject material, my goal is to work with you to practice good skills in studying, writing, and navigating an ever-growing world of learning resources. I believe tutoring should be driven by the learner, and my sessions are geared toward what the student needs, rather than a rigid lesson plan. "Teach people, not lessons" is my philosophy. My six years leading tours and field trips at the BYU Museum of Paleontology have given me experience interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds, communicating scientific information in a fun and engaging way. I have a passion for what I study, and I try to channel that into my teaching. I also love to utilize good natured jokes whenever possible, so if you like dry humor, we'll probably get along!
My main areas of expertise are in paleontology, basic biology, zoology, evolution, ecology, and animal behavior, as well as basic geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy. I also have more limited expertise in other kinds of geology and biology, including gemology, genetics, and botany. My current publications and active research tends to focus on behavioral and predatory ecology and morphology, with emphasis on theropod dinosaurs, birds of prey, and crocodilians.
Currently, I tutor for undergraduate and high school level classes in biological and geological sciences. If we end up working together, I hope it will be a dino-mite experience!
