About Elgie
Hi! I’m Elgie, a graduating Bachelor of Mathematics Education student and an aspiring math teacher. I have been practicing teaching for 3 years, gaining experience through classroom activities and high school classroom observations as part of my teacher education journey. My next step is my teaching internship, where I will continue developing my teaching skills in an actual classroom setting.
My experiences have helped me become more patient, responsible, and flexible when working with different learners. Studying in a multicultural education environment has also taught me to appreciate students with different backgrounds, personalities, and learning styles.
As a tutor, I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I believe that students learn better when lessons are explained clearly and they are given proper guidance and enough time to understand.
I am committed to creating a positive learning experience where students can improve their math skills and build confidence in solving problems. Whether you need help with a difficult topic, want to review your lessons, or simply need more practice, I am ready to guide you step by step.

My Teaching Approach
For me, learning math is not about memorizing formulas or simply getting the correct answer. It is about understanding the process and knowing why the answer makes sense. As a future math teacher, I want my students to feel that math is something they can learn and enjoy, even when a topic seems difficult at first.
I am now a graduating pre-service teacher and have been practicing teaching for 3 years now, which has helped me develop patience and learn how to adjust my explanations to different students. I also study in a multicultural education environment, where I have learned to appreciate different backgrounds, personalities, and ways of learning.
How I Teach
I use a simple, step-by-step, and student-centered approach. I explain lessons using examples that students can easily relate to, then guide them through problems before allowing them to try on their own.
I also encourage students to ask questions. If one explanation does not work for them, I try another way. My goal is to find an approach that helps the student truly understand the lesson rather than simply memorize the solution.
What Happens During a Lesson?
We begin with a short review of the previous lesson to refresh the student's knowledge. After that, I introduce a simple and relatable scenario connected to the new topic. Instead of immediately giving the lesson, I use the situation to spark curiosity and encourage the student to think, “What does this have to do with math? ”
Once the student is interested, we explore the new concept together. I explain the lesson, demonstrate examples, and solve problems step by step. Then, the student gets a chance to practice independently while I provide guidance when needed.
We end the lesson by checking what the student has learned and identifying topics that may need more practice.
What Makes Me Different?
I believe every student learns differently. With my 3 years of teaching practice, I have learned that being a good tutor means more than knowing math. It also means being patient, listening to the student, and knowing when to slow down or explain something in a different way.
I do not want my students to depend on me for every answer. I want to help them develop the confidence and skills to solve math problems on their own.
Who Can Learn With Me?
My lessons are suitable for elementary, middle school, and high school students who need extra help with math, want to review school lessons, prepare for quizzes and examinations, improve their problem-solving skills, or simply want more practice.
Whether you are struggling with a difficult topic or just want to become more confident in math, I will do my best to make each lesson comfortable, understandable, and meaningful.
