About Ashwin

I am a Geography and GIS professional with a strong interest in geospatial technology, mapping, and remote sensing. I have completed my B.Sc. in Geography from Goa University and my M.Sc. in Geography with a specialization in Hydrology from the University of Mumbai.

I have practical experience working with QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth Engine, Python, R, and various geospatial datasets. My work has involved GIS mapping, spatial analysis, remote sensing, land-use/land-cover mapping, georeferencing, and geospatial data processing.

I was selected among the National Top 10 Scholars for the ESRI India Masters Scholarship in GIS, which also provided me with an ArcGIS Pro license and scholarship support.

I enjoy teaching because I like making technical GIS concepts easier to understand through practical examples and hands-on exercises. Whether you are completely new to GIS or a university student looking to strengthen your practical skills, I aim to make each class clear, interactive, and useful.

My goal is not just to teach you which buttons to click, but to help you understand the concepts and workflows so that you can confidently use GIS independently.

About the lesson

I believe GIS is best learned by doing rather than only studying theory. My teaching approach is practical, step-by-step, and adapted to the student’s current level.

I begin by understanding the student’s goals and existing knowledge. Each class then combines a short explanation of the concept with hands-on practice using real GIS datasets. I demonstrate the workflow first, then guide the student while they perform the same task themselves.

A typical class includes a brief introduction to the topic, a live demonstration, guided practical work, and time for questions and troubleshooting. I focus on helping students understand not only which tools to use, but also why and when to use them.

I can teach beginners as well as university students who want to improve their practical GIS skills. Classes can cover QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, GIS fundamentals, map creation, georeferencing, spatial analysis, remote sensing, land-use/land-cover mapping, and introductory Python for GIS.

My goal is for every student to finish a session with a practical skill or completed GIS task that they can apply independently.
