About Michelle
Michelle Fricker is a dedicated dancer and choreographer originally from Peoria, Arizona. Over the course of 18 years, she has immersed herself in the art of dance, training diligently across a diverse range of genres, which include ballet, pointe/partnering, jazz, modern, contemporary, tap, hip-hop, and improvisation.
Her early training began at the age of 2 and was at a local competition dance school near home. In 2017, she auditioned for her first Nutcracker with Arizona Youth Ballet (AZYB), a small company directed by Christina Hampton. Ms. Hampton took Michelle under her wing and helped her develop a deeper understanding of classical ballet technique. With AZYB, Michelle had the opportunity to perform full-length ballets including Cinderella (Stepsister), Paquita (Cupid soloist), Firebird (Princess K), and several Nutcrackers (Sugarplum). Michelle was with Ms. Hampton until 2020.
In 2020, Michelle decided to attend the University of Arizona, School of Dance to further her dance training and education. In May 2024, Michelle graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Dance. Her time at the University has allowed her to perform works including an excerpt of George Balanchine’s Serenade, Gamzatti Variation, and several faculty-created works by Christopher Compton, Sam Watson, Lorin Mathis, Thang Dao, etc.
Michelle has also been fortunate to explore her choreographic voice at the University. Michelle has been passionate about bringing diversity to the Student Spotlight shows with ballet. She has created several works, three being staged in the Student Spotlight Showcase. Her work Espina, a contemporary ballet pointe work was staged in the Fall of 2022. Director Duane Cyrus asked Michelle to restage excerpts of Espina in the Dance Visions event in the Spring of 2023 where she was on a panel and discussed her work with donors. In the Fall of 2023, Michelle created a new ballet titled Tuyo, a contemporary ballet pointe piece. Tuyo was staged for Student Spotlight and was then requested to be restaged for the Scholarship benefit, the Director’s Cut performance in the Spring of 2024. Her work was in a performance with renowned guest artists like Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Ballet Tucson, Maurice Chestnut, Misty Copeland, and other UA Dance Ensemble.
Looking ahead, she aspires to embark on a journey in the world of classical and/or contemporary ballet, all while nurturing her love for choreography. For the 2024-2025 season, Michelle has signed to dance for Ballet North Texas, a ballet company located in Dallas. Michelle's journey in dance has been a humble yet passionate pursuit, and she remains excited about the artistic possibilities that the future may hold
