About Lara

I currently work in Marketing and Events. During my college years, I worked in events, I worked as a speech and drama teacher, I gave music and French grinds and I worked part-time in a gym. I'm hard-working and very professional. I like to make the most of my time and love to learn new things and pass the knowledge on. I write music and poetry in my spare time and I love books. My job is very fast-paced and I dream of moving to France soon! I have a real passion for my subjects. I understand that whilst not everyone may love them as much as I do, they are a necessity for your JC/LC, which is the ticket to your dream. I'd love to help you achieve both a fantastic JC/LC and get you your ticket to life!!

A gentle and encouraging approach is how I like to start my lessons. In the first lesson, I like to assess your level and then you can come to me with more specific things that you struggle with. I have been teaching ages as low as 5 in an array of subjects for 6 years now. My working method is based on communicative and contextualized interaction in order to maximize the chances of learning in a relatively short time. I take a particular interest in getting the learner interested in learning my subject. The teaching aids and other materials are also chosen according to the level and the particularities and needs of each learner. For JC, I have a 12-week program that covers the elements of the syllabus with assessments at the end of each 45min/hour session. For LC I have the same method. I have worksheets that I will email over for you to try and we can work through them together.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I grew up with parents who loved music but didn't play. When I was as young as 3 my dad played the music from The Mission which I began to learn from motif to motif.
I developed a further passion for classical music even more with the release of Disney's Fantasia that introduced young minds to the great works of orchestral and classical music that we all know and love today.
I really fell in love with music because my mum had a new CD in the car for us to sing along to when I was a baby and my grandad sang me to sleep every night...spoiled!
I begged for a piano and guitar when I was around 10 and the rest is history. Music has always been an integral part of my life that I got to share with everyone around me...just like you I'm sure!
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Yes there is! Everyone has some. I love Adrienne Lenker, Alanis Morisette, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Lauryn Hill... I also love Liszt and Debussy.... and Fred Again, Caribou, Jungle, Tinlicker.... the music I listen to in the office is always so varied.
Car time is karaoke time...that's reserved for Lady Gaga and Stevie Nicks tunes..
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Musicology.... it is RIVETING! There is so much to research in every corner of the world. I won't go on but if you go on to study at 3rd level you'll get a taste for it..and then most definitely an appetite!
Happy to chat to you more about this.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I am a jack of all trades and a master of none but I truly believe that there isn't a one most difficult instrument, they are all difficult unless you practice!
You may be a little more naturally adept at one but it may not give you the vibe to express yourself the way you feel. ( I have very small hands so octaves on the piano are particularly difficult...but I adapt!)
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Take your time, ask all the questions, be curious and brave! Teachers teach because they want to show you and guide you...we were all students too at one stage!
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

    Hardest question ever!
Lyrically - Adrienne Lenker..one of the most poetic and strategic writers of our generation.
Spiritually and Guidance - Stevie Nicks, she would be so fun but also a very candid and honest woman who wrote some of the most incredible anthems to date.
Honing a Craft - Lady Gaga...she is arguably the best pop artist to ever walk the planet with incredible show-womanship and creative direction!
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Join a band...just do it! Or a choir, or an orchestra ...just play and jam with people around you...learn and grow with them!
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

We chose to study music for one reason...we love it. It's fun! It brings us together regardless of language, culture, genre... music is universal!
I know our LC is so much pressure...the more we enjoy ourselves...the easier the journey!
