About Helen

I am currently studying a Master of Science in Experimental and Clinical Linguistics having graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws in 2022. I worked in regulation for two years and found myself missing the opportunity to work directly with people. My long-term goal is to become a lecturer and researcher after completing a PhD. In the meantime, I love teaching! Tutoring also allows me to keep up to date with the realities of students' lives, which I hope will make me a better lecturer in the future.

I have been tutoring since 2017 and have many years' experience delivering flexible tutoring to students of all ages, from primary school through to the end of high school.

About the lesson

I am an experienced tutor who is happy to adapt to your personal learning style. I believe in focusing on the needs of my students and am happy to prepare learning plans which may be adapted on the day as needed. I have experience working with students with learning disabilities and neurodivergences as well as personal experience studying with ADHD. I do not use AI to create lesson plans; I will always personalise your lessons myself.

I am happy to work with students who want to focus on particular subjects, but I also have experience working with students who want to improve their grades in a variety of subjects. For many of my students, we focus not only on subject-specific learning but also on study skills to help my students tackle other difficult subjects in the future.

Lessons can be any length, but I advise around 1-2 hours for most students. I teach law, linguistics, French, and maths (including statistics for BA subjects) as well as related subjects from early high school up to undergraduate level. I can also teach chemistry, history and English up to NCEA Level 3 as well as biology, classics and German up to NCEA Level 2.
