About Yihan
I’m a native Mandarin speaker from China and currently a graduate student in New York. Before coming to the U.S., I worked part-time as a Chinese language teacher at an education institution in China, where I gained experience helping students improve their language skills and communicating concepts in an approachable way.
Having studied and lived in both China and the U.S., I understand that learning a language is about much more than memorizing vocabulary and grammar. I enjoy helping students understand how Chinese is actually used in everyday life, while also sharing the cultural context behind the language.
I’m patient, flexible, and happy to adapt lessons to your goals and pace. Whether you’re completely new to Mandarin or already have some experience and want to become more natural and confident, you’re very welcome in my lessons!

I believe learning Chinese should be practical, engaging, and tailored to your goals. As a native Mandarin speaker with previous experience teaching Chinese language in China, I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, interests, and learning style.
For beginners, we can build a strong foundation in pronunciation, tones, vocabulary, and everyday expressions. For intermediate learners, lessons can focus more on conversation, reading, natural expressions, and correcting common mistakes.
A typical lesson combines explanation, guided practice, and real-life conversation rather than simply memorizing vocabulary or grammar rules. I’m also happy to incorporate Chinese culture, media, and everyday topics into our lessons.
Whether you’re learning Mandarin for travel, work, school, personal interest, or simply want someone to practice speaking with, I’ll help you become more comfortable and confident using Chinese in real situations.
