About Sarah

I'm Sarah, and I have a Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development from the University of Minnesota. I am currently pursuing graduate education in genetic counseling. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, and mathematics, and I genuinely enjoy helping others understand these subjects.
In addition to my academic experience, I have previous experience tutoring elementary-aged students in math and language arts, and have worked with students through online tutoring. I also have several years of professional experience in roles that involve teaching, training, and communicating with people of different ages and backgrounds.
I take my role as a tutor seriously and strive to create a respectful and supportive learning environment. I am patient, dependable, and committed to meeting students where they are academically. Whether a student needs help catching up, preparing for an exam, or gaining more confidence in a challenging subject, I want them to leave each lesson feeling more capable than when they started.

About the lesson

Hi, I'm Sarah! I'm a graduate student with a background in genetics, cell biology, and developmental biology, and I love helping students build confidence in subjects that can sometimes feel intimidating. I have experience tutoring students in math, biology, and language arts, as well as teaching and training others in professional settings.
My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and adaptable. I believe there is rarely just one way to understand a concept, so I work with each student to figure out how they learn best. I like to break complicated topics into smaller, manageable pieces and use examples, visuals, practice problems, and questions to help students develop a deeper understanding rather than simply memorizing information.
A typical lesson will begin with a quick review of what the student already knows and what they would like to accomplish. From there, we'll work through the challenging material together, practice applying the concepts, and finish by reviewing what we learned and identifying anything that may need additional practice. I'm happy to adjust this structure based on the student's needs, whether they need homework help, test preparation, or support with a difficult concept.
I tutor students from elementary school through high school in science, biology, chemistry, and math, and I'm happy to work with students at different skill levels and learning styles. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their abilities.
