About Kathryn

I'm 22 years old and aspiring to do my PhD in Forensic Psychology - I graduated from NottinghamTrent University in 2023 with a 1st class degree in Criminology, though my journey to attaining high grades was not smooth - it took time, patience and dedication to both myself and the skills I wanted to build.

Attaining and improving grades and skills is one thing, but it works alongside a plethora of other attributes - such as a positive self-image (self-efficacy), motivation outside of external factors (such as parents, guardians and teachers) and acknowledging and celebrating the small wins alongside the big ones.

I have worked in a number of environments - primary schools, learning support environments, a township in South Africa where we created and designed all of our own resources. In my spare time I love to go to the gym, go hiking with my dogs and read. I have DBS certification from my previous job working with primary school children

About the lesson

I aim to personalise techniques based on the needs of the student, for example surrounding confidence building and trust in one's self to boldly try (to paraphrase Beyoncé, we must not be afraid to be seen trying).

I offer sessions that are 30 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes - and I like to discuss expectations with students and guardians beforehand to build a shared picture of the goals.

My experience is, predominantly, as a student myself; having graduated in 2023 and currently undertaking my Masters degree in Psychology. Furthermore, my last job was as a maths tutor for primary school children within an after school club, alongside my undergraduate degree. This involved lesson planning to cater to the needs of a range of ages and abilities and the (sometimes strenuous) ability to turn learning into something accessible and often fun.

I have additionally, within my postgraduate education, covered educational psychology and approaches to learning to improve on my teaching skills. I have additional experience working with children with special educational needs in a variety of settings.

I strongly believe that a person learns at their best when they can believe in their ability to succeed, this is deeply rooted in psychological research and I am to bring a positive, can-do mindset to all students in order to create attainable goals.
