About Tonya
Teaching guitar feels like a constant dialogue where I help students navigate everything from barre chords to complex songwriting and lead guitar. Over these 3 years, I have worked with everyone from nervous beginners to those preparing for grade exams. My approach ensures that you gain confidence with scales and modes while perfecting rhythm guitar techniques.
Reading tabs and sheet music becomes much simpler when you understand music theory and how to apply power chords or strumming patterns effectively. Whether you want to perform on a stage or play for your own enjoyment, I am ready to help you reach your goals.

A typical lesson starts with a clear focus on the specific techniques that you need to master today. Because I hold an MMus from Berklee College of Music, I bring a structured perspective to our work together.
We will check your progress on songs or scales while making sure your physical technique remains relaxed and efficient. These 9 minutes of targeted drill work at the start of our time together create a strong foundation for the rest of our practice. You will find that addressing small details in your playing makes the music sound much more professional.
It is quite rewarding to see how quickly 7 minutes of consistent feedback transforms a difficult passage into something smooth. Playing music should always remain a genuinely enjoyable experience for the student.
