About Luke

My name is Luke. I am a 21-year-old singer-songwriter with 12 years of experience playing electric and acoustic guitar. I am also an industrial design student at RMIT.

I was lucky enough to have an incredibly talented and skillful tutor and stuck with him for 10 years. My lessons are a reflection of his and are very detailed and strict but they will give you the best foundation and technique possible.

Picking up the guitar certainly changed my life for the better and taught me discipline, persistence, a hard work ethic, and a love for music. These lessons I have carried through my life in all respects and this is something I aim to teach.

Depending on your goals with music, picking up an instrument is incredibly rewarding and I believe everyone should give it a red hot go. I like to keep my lessons fun and enjoyable. If you're willing the learn I'm willing to teach!

About the lesson

My lessons consist of taking a moment to get to know the student: their musical interests, any prior experience with the guitar, and their goals.

Introduce the different parts of the guitar and explain technique and ergonomics when approaching the guitar. Provide guidance on hand positioning on the guitar neck and strings.

For students starting from scratch, I'll begin by teaching basic chords like G, C, D, E, A, and Em. Show them how to form these chords and provide assistance as needed. as well as explain the fundamental theory for each chord. Introduce basic strumming techniques, starting with simple downstrokes and upstrokes.

I guide students in understanding rhythm and timing through basic strumming patterns or exercises along with a metronome.

I like to introduce basic melodies or riffs to help the student coordinate between both hands and get a feel for playing music. If the student is interested, gradually introduce basic music notation, through simple exercises or melodies.

I assign specific exercises or simple songs for the student to practice at home. Offer practice routines and tips to facilitate improvement. documenting this in a booklet I provide

I encourage questioning everything from the students and will give them time to ask questions or seek clarification on anything they find challenging. We will then summarise the key points covered during the lesson for reinforcement.

I like to discuss future goals and expectations from my lessons and set realistic expectations together.
