I am a first grade teacher going into my 11th year of teaching. I previously taught preschool for 4 years. I am Reading Endorsed, ESOL Endorsed, and trained at Yale University for Social Emotional Learning using their research-based program the RULER Approach.

I have been a first grade teacher for the majority of my teaching career which means I primarily focus on teaching kids how to read! Not only do I love to read myself, but also have been told by many parents how their children not only learned to read, but learned to LOVE reading. That is the highest compliment in my book! I use programs such as The Secret Stories and UFLI, these programs focus on the brain and how our brains process and learn how to read. Your child will not only learn how to read, but they will also know which parts of their brain they are using and how they learned it. We will focus on the following skills during our lessons: *phoneme blending *phoneme segmentation *phonemic awareness *explicit introduction of new concepts *decoding and encoding practice *decoding automaticity of previously learned skills In addition, your child will have a folder of resources that they can use to practice at home between lessons. I will also help your child find books on their level that they will love reading. We can even schedule a session or sessions at the library! I love teaching reading and hope I can share that love with your child!
